Back-to-School Safety Tips for Children Traveling To and From School

School Bus Safety Tips

While riding the school bus, students should observe the following:

  • Arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the bus is scheduled to come. Make sure you have all your things with you and stay on your side of the road until the bus comes. Form an orderly line when the bus comes and climb in one by one. Do not use any electronic devices or keep earphones in your ears while boarding the bus.

  • If you miss the bus, do not chase after it. Either walk to the next bus stop or get your parents to drive you to the next stop as the driver will not be expecting you there.

  • Stay away from the school bus danger zones: near the right and left front tires, near the right rear tires, and near the front door. These are areas where the driver will not be able to see people clearly from his seat.

  • Do not return to the bus for something that you dropped or left behind without first getting the driver’s attention.
