Two Girls Dead and One Seriously Injured in Hit and Run Accident

In today’s society, hit and run accidents are becoming an everyday occurrence.  Sometimes drivers panic and try to flee the scene instead of facing the consequences of their action.

Recently in Atlanta, a locksmith chased a customer who did not pay him and caused the customer to run into three girls on a sidewalk on Barrett Lakes Boulevard. Two of the three girls died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.  The third girl has suffered broken bones. Both the locksmith and the customer he was chasing now fact two counts of vehicular homicide.

Following the accident, at least one of the vehicles tried to flee the scene making this horrific accident a hit and run. With hit and run accidents happening more frequent it’s a good idea to know how best to handle these accidents should you be involved in one.

Accidents involving hit and run drivers can be the most stressful.  The victim feels helpless, anxiety, anger and frustration.  If you do get hit by a driver that flees, there are certain steps you should take.

Once you are sure everyone is okay call the police.  If you or someone else needs medical attention, dial 911 immediately before doing anything else.  Once help is on the way, try and remember the color and type of vehicle that hit you.  Write those items down along with a license plate number if you are able to get one.  You will need as much descriptive information as possible when filing a police report.

After everything is complete at the accident scene, you may file an insurance claim.  If police were able to identify the vehicle, file a claim with their insurance carrier.  An attorney can help you this and help you avoid common mistakes in filing a claim.
