How Can Brain Injury Cause Personality Changes?

I think what happens with a traumatic brain injury, the person becomes extremely frustrated with their life. They can’t think the way they used to. They can’t interact with their family members the way they used to. They can’t work like they used to. That TV set where the static is coming in now and things aren’t clear anymore. The person is just filled with all kinds of emotion. There’s depression and there’s anxiety.

So in a sense, the person hasn’t changed, their personality hasn’t changed but they become depressed and anxious and their behavior changes. And a lot of people start to see it as a personality change. What it is is that person is suffering from trying to cope with the fact that his brain doesn’t work the way it used to work.
