Teen Survives Semi-Truck Wreck

Accidents have many costs. A car accident, for instance, will at least require repair bills to be paid. Many of these accidents also involve injury, so there will also be medical bills. If the injuries are severe enough, there will be costs for rehabilitation and hospital stays. These crushing costs are often not fully covered by insurance. Legal compensation is necessary to make sure the price of an accident is not carried by the victim, but by the party responsible for the accident in the first place.

An Athens teenager was hit by an eighteen-wheeler traveling at full speed — and he survived. The 17-year-old has been called a miracle by both his family and his doctors.

He was driving to school on Friday, March 14, 2014 when he made a left turn. Blinded by the bright morning sun, he did not see the truck, which pushed his Honda Civic down the street more than 100 feet before the car was rolled under the truck’s tires. The Honda was crushed beneath the big rig.

The boy’s mother feared her son was killed, since those accidents are usually instantly fatal.

It took a great deal of effort for medical workers to extract the victim from his car. He was then airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center. According to his doctor, the victim had a breathing tube in him already before his arrival and he had low blood pressure. His leg and been fractured, his head bruised, and he was still bleeding.

The doctor went on to state that the patient was clearly in critical condition. She was not certain the boy would survive, but he began to show signs of improvement. When he opened his eyes and looked at her, the doctor began to feel hopeful he would pull through.

Seven weeks later, he was transferred to Shepherd Center for rehab.

The local papers began to refer to his recovery as a miracle. When his head began to heal, a scar was left behind in the shape of a capital M. Both the boy and his mother say that M means “Miracle”.

The 17-year-old has been tentatively cleared for released from Shepherd Center at the end of May. His doctors expect him to recover fully.
