Mother of Toddler Ejected In I-85 Accident Cited for Multiple Violations

A car crash on Interstate 85 resulted in serious injuries on a 2-year-old child, and the Georgia State Police cited the driver of the vehicle that was carrying that child, according to police sources. Rescue workers took the child to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston after the single-vehicle crash.
According to the Georgia State Police, the small child was a passenger in a 2000 Lincoln Navigator driven by her 31-year-old mother. Police cited the mother with driving too fast for conditions, having worn tires, and a child restraint violation.
The SUV lost control on Interstate 85 and struck the center median wall. The child was in a child safety seat, but she was ejected from the car nonetheless, and came to rest in the left emergency lane on the other side of the Interstate, according to police spokespeople. The child restraint device did not come free from the car and the child was the only person injured in the accident.
Two lanes on both sides of the Interstate were temporarily closed, and the investigation continues. Charges are pending.
The girl injured in the crash was in stable condition, as of last report, according to a spokeswoman for the hospital.
